Public Meeting this Friday over GMOs in Northland

Public Meeting this Friday over GMOs in Northland

The NZ Labour Party in Whangarei has organised a public meeting to discuss the very important subject of the real possibility of Genetically Modified pine trees being planted in NOrthland forestry plantations.

This is an initiative coming through from the Ministry of Primary Industries (MPI) - and over-rides completely the Whangarei District Council, the Far North District Council and the Northland Regional Council efforts to keep Northland GE-Free.

The local Labour Electorate Committee is extremely concerned at this development coming through from the current Government, and wants to alert local Northlanders - not only to the dangers of allowing genetic engineering into our plants and soils, but also to the assumption that a central government agency (MPI) can go totally against the expressed wishes of local people on such an important issue.

Te Tai Tokerau MP, Kelvin Davis will lead the discussion on this issue, and further information and submission forms will be available for people to complete and send off - before the submission deadline of 11 August.

ALL Welcome.

Friday 31 July 5.30pm start to 7.30pm
