"Knife wielding male arrested Balclutha"

At approximately 3.15 pm on the 27/7 Balclutha Police were informed that a male aged 20 with a large concealed knife was causing concern to the public on Clyde St near George St Balclutha

He had a short time earlier threatened a female acquaintence at a nearby address and had since left, threatening people on the street and causing minor damage.

Upon arrival police located the man inside a local business premise and as he was violent and resisting arrest pepper spray was deployed to enable police to restrain and take the man into custody

He will be appearing in the Dunedin District Court tomorrow on a range of charges

No one was physically injured as a result of the incident
