Arrest made following spate of street robberies

Police have made an arrest of a 17 year old male on Friday the 31 st of July 2015 after investigating a spate of street robberies that have occurred in the Wellington CBD over the past 6 weeks.

Recently Police became aware of a spate of robberies that appeared to be targeting males who were walking on their own in the CBD area in the late evenings.

There appeared to be between 2 – 4 male offenders during each incident during which they would approach each victim and threaten or assault them while demanding their possessions, particularly money, Detective Sergeant Haley Ryan from the Wellington Police stated through good Police investigative work they were able to identify one of the offending males using the CCTV footage that is captured throughout city.

Subsequent search warrants were executed on Friday morning resulting in a number of the stolen items being located.

Police are continuing with their investigation to identify the other males responsible for these crimes.

The victims in each of these crimes were understandably very shaken and the Wellington Police are determined to identify and locate those responsible and hold them to account for their actions.

She also stated she believes the group of males may be responsible for other similar incidents that have not been reported to Police and she would like to hear from any other persons who have been targeted to come forward and report the matter.
