Wellingtonians invited to ‘drop in’ and chat about their city

Wellington residents are being invited to drop in to the Prefab Hall this coming Saturday (7 May) and have a chat about their city.

“We’re having a fresh conversation about how we can keep Wellington moving, vibrant and one of the best places in the world to live,” says Jim Bentley, director ofLet’s Get Wellington Moving, a joint initiative of Greater Wellington Regional Council, Wellington City Council and the NZ Transport Agency.

“Our focus is on the area between Ngauranga and Wellington Airport encompassing the Wellington Urban Motorway to Wellington Hospital and International Airport and connections to the eastern and southern suburbs. We really want to understand how Upper Hutt people experience travelling in and through this part of Wellington and what they value most about how Wellington City looks, feels and works.”

The drop in session will be an opportunity for people to talk to those directly involved with the Let’s Get Wellington Moving programme and complete a couple of surveys. They can also stick post-its on maps pointing out what they like and don’t like about travelling in this part of the Capital.

People’s views and feedback will be used to develop some basic principles for good city and transport design. These principles will guide the development of a range of possible scenarios that would make it easier for people to get around as well as enhancing the look, feel and function of the city.
