Funding workshops
coming to Hutt Valley
Upper Hutt City Council, Hutt City Council, and Volunteer Wellington have teamed up to offer low-cost workshops on sustainable funding.
UPPER HUTT, Wellington NZ, 02 JUN 2016—Community groups, not-for-profit, and sporting organisations are invited to attend one of two sustainable funding workshops to be held at Upper Hutt Central Library and Walter Nash Centre on Wednesday 15 June.
Feedback gathered at last year’s successful Community Connect event, highlighted the need for many local groups to learn more about alternative funding methods. Also highlighted were difficulties members of community groups face in accessing good training opportunities due to the barriers of cost, location, and time commitment. The sustainable funding workshops have now been specifically tailored to meet these needs.
What was a full-day workshop has now been condensed into a comprehensive and informative two-hour session. The workshop usually costs $140 per person, but Upper Hutt City Council and Hutt City Council are subsidising the training, bringing the cost down to $20 per person. To maximise the opportunity to attend, one workshop will be held in the Upper Hutt Central Library and the other in Lower Hutt at the Walter Nash Centre.
“The workshops will be facilitated by Kerri Tilby-Price who has been working in the community sector for more than 20 years,” says Upper Hutt City Council’s Director of Community Services, Mike Ryan. “She is a dynamic and engaging speaker and is full of wonderful ideas and has a lot of experience to draw on. Kerri is very well known in Australasia, and is a highly sought after speaker in the not-for-profit world.”
The first workshop will be held from 3.00 – 5.00 pm at the Walter Nash Centre in Lower Hutt and the second workshop will be held from 6.00 – 8.00 pm at Upper Hutt Central Library—both onWednesday 15 June.
These workshops are evidence of the continued and growing relationship between the two councils and local community groups. Last month both councils collaborated with Volunteer Wellington, Community Law, and Te Omanga Hospice to run two Health and Safety forums at the same venues. They attracted a total of 146 attendees.
Registrations are essential. Groups are asked to contact Katie Terris at Volunteer Hutt on (04) 566 6786 or email managerhutt@volunteerwellington.nz
