March against Racism – 1pm Victoria Square, this Saturday
15 May 2019
On March 15th, Christchurch witnessed the worst act of terrorism in New Zealand's modern history.
Not since the 19th century wars to enforce British law and culture has the country experienced such an act of violence on home soil.
The attacks highlighted the racism present in New Zealand.
'Together Against Racism' was formed to take up the challenge of building an ongoing anti-racist movement to confront the causes of racism and work against it as a grassroots movement.
"We as a community have to embrace diversity rather than fear it", said organiser Brian Turner.
A well-attended meeting was held in the "cardboard cathedral" immediately after the shootings. At that meeting a march against racism was called.
This march will begin at Victoria Square, commencing at 1pm on Saturday 1`8 May.
All welcome!
