Labelling decision sensible
The Food and Grocery Council has commended the Government's decision not to join with Australia in requiring country of origin labelling for food.
Food Safety Minister Annette King says health and safety information is already required on food labels, and the proposed standard to be used in Australia is onerous and an unnecessary barrier to international trade.
Food and Grocery Council Executive Director Brenda Cuttress says the decision is sensible.
"The Food and Grocery Council is rightly focused on food safety, and agrees with the Minister that there is no link between food safety and country of origin labelling. Food safety is an absolute priority, regardless of origin."
