Media Release

Welcome to West Auckland’s newest and most stylishly exciting hospitality venue... The Hangar.

The Hangar is the restaurant and bar West Auckland has been waiting for. And it’s the restaurant and bar West Auckland deserves – because, as we’ve all known for years… ‘West is Best’.

Combining the stylish sophistication of an unbelievable layout with the friendly laid-back atmosphere West Auckland is famous for, The Hangar now adds another dimension to life. Hence our catchphrase ‘Work. Home. The Hangar.'

On service, décor, and menu, The Hangar is unparalleled in New Zealand.

Never before has one venue been able to offer:
- The coldest beer in New Zealand.
- The biggest steak at any gastro’ bar in the region.
- The longest bar in New Zealand.
- The most professionally trained staff in New Zealand.
and
- The best vantage points for watching sport on multi-screen TVs in New Zealand.

The Hangar is a landing zone for everything from an upmarket corporate lunch venue, through to a great place to meet work colleagues for a couple of quiet beers or glass of wine or two after work.

It’s a restaurant offering unrivaled cuisine, and a brunch venue where families can feel comfortable on weekends.

And for those who like to party – and let’s face it, we’re Westies… we love to party - The Hangar evolves at night into West Auckland's premier entertainment venue with great music and a vibrant atmosphere.

For too long, West Aucklanders have had to endure lengthy rides into the central city to find the best places to eat, drink, meet friends, entertain business clients, party, relax, or watch their favourite sport on big screen TVs.

No more. The days of the $35 cab fare into the city are gone (hey, we can think of better ways for you to spend that hard earned cash). The Hangar now brings it all out West. And as we’ve said before… West is Best.

A large runway mezzanine floor floating majestically above The Hangar's main bar area is the ideal space for private functions. And with a bird’s eye view, the mezzanine floor is also the perfect spot to check-out all the action down below from the most amazing vantage point you’ve ever seen in any bar in New Zealand.

Meanwhile, two exclusive corporate suites at The Hangar have been purpose built for business functions and presentations. Both are served by the latest in modern audio/visual technologies - including high-speed data cable connections and full audio/visual connectivity for lap top presentations.

Just minutes walk from the already legendary Trusts Stadium, The Hangar offers the perfect venue for pre or post drinks around sporting or musical attractions.

The Hangar also brings the sociable and incredibly healthy Stonegrill cooking concept to West Auckland for the first time - where a range of gourmet meat, poultry and seafood dishes are cooked fresh to order on oven-hot stones delivered to the table.

In addition, The Hangar's talented brigade of chefs offer an extensive a-la-carte menu featuring succulent modern cuisine based on good old fashioned West Auckland value for money. And of course, there's always the great Kiwi favourite... freshly baked gourmet pizzas.

Supported by the most extensive range of premium beers, wines and spirits ever stocked in West Auckland, The Hangar will tempt discerning customers with a drinking and dining experience which most locals will never have experienced before.

Unbelievably, there are still more reasons to visit The Hangar…

With a range of private hosting options available – from a small select group, through to as many as 100 guests - The Hangar can deliver tailor-made solutions to entertaining clients or friends for any type of event or function.

Whether it’s a birthday celebration with the girls, dinner with a few good schoolmates, or a corporate sales presentation to the company’s marketing team, The Hangar can cater to suit every size, taste and budget.

Us Westies have always known there is more to life now than simply work and home. Now we’re telling the rest of New Zealand… there is ‘WORK. HOME. THE HANGAR.’

Experience, enthusiasm, passion, and a focus on delivering outstanding customer service, are just some of the key attributes the rock solid and highly committed management team at The Hangar bring to the most exciting and visionary hospitality operation to open in New Zealand in recent years.

Heading the team is venue manager Alton Francis who comes to The Hangar with a pedigree for setting up and running some of Auckland’s chicest bars. Alton has held general manager roles at such crowd-pulling hospitality hot-spots as Match Lounge Bar and Orchid Bar – both of which won Lewisham hospitality awards under his leadership – as well as Centro Bar and Lounge.

Drop in the additional names of renown drinking venues like the Crow Bar, De Bretts Hotel, and Kermadec Restaurant, and customers will begin to appreciate the distinguished skillset Alton Francis brings to The Hangar.

Now passing on that experience to service staff at The Hangar, Alton promises to recreate unrivalled levels of professionalism among his hand-picked team... levels of professionalism which will undoubtedly shine through to guests enjoying the drinking and dining experience at West Auckland’s premier hospitality venue.

Training, product knowledge, motivation and teamwork are among the key workplace principles Alton Francis has already established among The Hanger crew as they strive to deliver stellar levels of customer service.

Proudly standing alongside Alton Francis is The Hangar bar manager Darren Kearns who has also honed his career across a diverse range of notable Auckland dining and drinking establishments.

Among the menu of premier bars Darren has served at and managed, shine such prestigious names as The Kingslander pub, GPK restaurant, Deschlers, Verboten, legendary Parnell good-times magnet Iguacu, Papa Jacks Voodoo Lounge, and Factory Nightclub. In a very short period of time, expect The Hangar to be mentioned in the same sentence as these luminary Auckland establishments.

The once-in-a-lifetime, gold-mine opportunity to be part of the launch team bringing The Hangar to West Auckland was too tempting a career move for Darren to even consider turning down the role. Tasked with meeting the challenge of delivering Auckland's best service to a discerning audience, Darren has diligently sourced The Hangar’s enviable beverage menu of premium beers, wines and spirits - all enthusiastically served by the highly trained bar staff under his leadership.

Rounding out the balanced management trio is The Hangar executive chef Kennedy Taylor. A passion for creating great affordable food for a savvy customer base, combined with a loyalty to New Zealand produce, has seen chef Taylor literally carve out a reputation for innovation and flair on a plate.

Chef Taylor’s career has seen his culinary talents encompass fine dining Auckland restaurants such as Claret, and Venus, through to quality, value-for-money gastro-bar style food from the kitchen at Degree bar in the Viaduct.

Most recently, chef Taylor has been sharpening his cuisine aspirations in the high volume catering market - with upmarket foodservice specialists Dawson’s Catering - serving corporate and top-end private clients.

Carefully analysing The Hangar's various dining segments, chef Taylor has skillfully balanced up premium produce with the all-important value-for-money to deliver a stunning array of dishes at very affordable prices.

Alton Francis, Darren Kearns and Kennedy Taylor… three highly talented young professionals empowered with ensuring that The Hangar will become West Auckland’s premier drinking and dining venue…. a challenge they have all proudly and openly taken up. Their results will speak for themselves - at The Hangar.
