Kiwibank Supports Government Healthier Homes Initiative

Kiwibank will waive its home loan top up fee for customers seeking to increase their mortgages in order to install insulation and better heating under the Government’s healthier homes programme.

In the Budget announced today, the Government has outlined a scheme to provide grants to people to retrofit their homes with insulation and clean heating devices. The Government grants will not necessarily cover all the costs associated with the scheme, so Kiwibank has agreed to assist its customers who seek additional finance.

Kiwibank Chief Executive Sam Knowles said he is a supporter of energy efficiency initiatives and that subject to normal lending criteria, customers will be able to top up their mortgages to upgrade energy efficiency in their home without incurring any administration fees.

“It is in everybody’s best interest to use energy wisely. The Government’s objective is to make more New Zealand homes warm and dry. We can help by waiving our normal charges for our home loan customers who will be spending more than covered by the Government grant and are seeking borrowed funds secured against their home.”
