Nugget Point Reclaims Its Queenstown Charm

Nugget Point Reclaims Its Quintessential Queenstown Charm

Distinction Hotels New Zealand has appointed Ken Edwards as the General Manager of Distinction Nugget Point Boutique Hotel, tasked with restoring one of Queenstown’s most beloved properties to its original glory.

Mr Edwards joins Distinction Nugget Point with a solid twenty-six years’ hotel management experience. His well-established management team from his previous GM position at Peppers Bluewater Resort in Lake Tekapo have joined him in Queenstown following his appointment.

“I’m thrilled with this new challenge and look forward to welcoming guests to our ‘hidden gem’ of a property,” said Mr Edwards.

“I’m passionate about my role here and the fresh approach my team and I can bring to this unique boutique hotel.”

Opulent yet uniquely intimate in design, and supremely positioned in a dramatic setting suspended above the Shotover River, Distinction Nugget Point is a short drive from thriving Queenstown and historic Arrowtown.

Thirty six luxurious open-plan suites with private balconies either enjoy dramatic vistas of the famous "gold rich" Shotover River, with the Remarkables, Sugar Loaf Hill and Cecil Peak towering on the skyline, or beautiful garden views. Presidential Suites are a sight to behold, each featuring an outdoor jacuzzi and expansive balconies.

Mr Edwards said the new management company, Distinction Hotel Group, had a long-term commitment to the property.

“We want to re-establish it as somewhere that’s small, rather luxurious and very engaging, with a real sense of warmth in the welcome and the very highest levels of service and standards.

“Not only will that apply to our guests, but also our local community with whom we look forward to re-engaging.

“The property is proudly New Zealand owned and we strongly believe in supporting the New Zealand economy. We offer the very best food, wine and produce for our guests and locals.

“Our Executive Chef Rob Hunt sources New Zealand’s most excellent produce for his menus while local wine connoisseur, Alan Hamilton from Arrowtown, has built a wine list with no Australian or European wines on offer,” Mr Edwards said.

Mr Edwards said while Distinction Nugget Point was an aspirational place to visit, stay or dine, it was very achievable for most.

“The perception is that we are expensive, that people can’t step through the door, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. We are priced in line with many properties or restaurants in the Queenstown market with very reasonable prices on our food and wines.

“We look forward to re-establishing our community relationships and providing both the local community and our guests with our quintessential Queenstown flavour,” he said.

Distinction Nugget Hotel has launched a $199 special offer to enjoy a luxurious bed and breakfast experience in a spacious Garden View Suite, complete with private patio or balcony. Included in the rate are Wi-Fi, car parking and a scheduled shuttle service to/from Queenstown. This offer is valid until May 31, 2010.
