Rural Women New Zealand welcomes new focus on bio-security

Rural Women New Zealand welcomes the budgeted $75.9 million of capital funding over the next four years for a new joint border management system.

“Last year we expressed our concerns to government about reported cut backs in point of entry bio-security monitoring,” says Mrs Evans, Rural Women New Zealand’s land use spokesperson.

“We are pleased that this funding will enable Customs and MAF to work more closely to protect our primary industries and provide a more efficient and streamlined system at our borders.

“Bio-security is of vital importance to all of New Zealand, not just the agricultural production sector, so all of New Zealand benefits from this. The new computerized border system will also mean reduced compliance and operating costs for all businesses.”
