Wellington Drive gains German certification
Wellington Drive’s more efficient electric motor obtains German tester’s approval

July 29 (BusinessDesk) – Wellington Drive Technologies Ltd., the North Shore-based manufacturer of highly efficient electric motors, has won an international endorsement from leading German testing authority, the VDE Institute.
WDT obtained national certification approval for its new line of motors in the United States earlier this year from that country’s leading product safety certification organisation, Underwriters Laboratories. Wellington’s chief executive Ross Green said VDE’s approval was further independent confirmation of the motors’ quality and reliability.
The company, which last year sold over 600,000 electric motors used mostly in the commercial refrigeration market such as bottle coolers, would use the VDE certification to help drive continued sales growth in new markets internationally.
“VDE is seen by the industry as a real ‘quality mark’ that attests to produce performance beyond meeting regulatory requirements,” he said. “This is a notoriously difficult approval to get and is now demanded as a pre-requisite to getting an order by most top-tier European customers and may in developing countries.”
The manufacturer of brushless, electronically commutated motors supplies commercial refrigeration customers such as Coca-Cola, which require high standards of reliability and performance.
“The VDE mark will help us to more quickly overcome barriers to entry with new customers in both European and global markets,” Green said.
Its shares rose 1 cent today to 8.3 cents each.
