Deadline looms for Internet Best Practice Awards
Security, Openness, Accessibility and Diversity key to Internet Best Practice Awards
InternetNZ (Internet New Zealand Inc) and Australian domain name administrator AuDA advise that the deadline is fast approaching for the second Australia and New Zealand Internet Best Practice Awards.
This annual competition recognises groups or individuals who have embraced the challenge of making the Internet a secure, open, accessible or diverse experience for everyone who uses it.
These four themes have been identified as key issues being addressed by the global Internet Governance Forum which is a discussion group that was set up by the United Nations to contribute to internet policy and governance dialogue.
Finalists will be recognised in
each of the following five categories:
Best Security Initiative
Entrants in this
category will be seeking solutions to security threats and
building trust and confidence in the online environment.
Best Openness Initiative
Entrants in this
category will be focussed on the free flow of information
including access to information and knowledge and bringing
people closer to those who would govern them.
Best Accessibility Initiative
Entrants in this
category will be attempting to bridge the digital divide
that affects rural communities, the disabled, the elderly
and the socially disadvantaged.
Best Diversity
Initiative
Entrants in this category will exemplify
expressions of cultural diversity and identity, including
multilingual and local language content to bring all people
into the internet.
Best Youth
Initiative
Initiatives that fit under any of the
above four categories, led by an individual or group of
individuals under the age of 28 on 30 August 2010.
Entries for the Awards close on 30 August 2010 at 7.00pm New Zealand Time (5.00pm AEST) and Winners will be announced at a presentation dinner in Melbourne on Monday 18 October 2010.
Winners may also be showcased at Regional and International Internet Governance Forums as examples of Australian and New Zealand best practice.
