Deadline looms for Internet Best Practice Awards

Security, Openness, Accessibility and Diversity key to Internet Best Practice Awards

InternetNZ (Internet New Zealand Inc) and Australian domain name administrator AuDA advise that the deadline is fast approaching for the second Australia and New Zealand Internet Best Practice Awards.

This annual competition recognises groups or individuals who have embraced the challenge of making the Internet a secure, open, accessible or diverse experience for everyone who uses it.

These four themes have been identified as key issues being addressed by the global Internet Governance Forum which is a discussion group that was set up by the United Nations to contribute to internet policy and governance dialogue.

Finalists will be recognised in each of the following five categories:

Best Security Initiative
Entrants in this category will be seeking solutions to security threats and building trust and confidence in the online environment.

Best Openness Initiative
Entrants in this category will be focussed on the free flow of information including access to information and knowledge and bringing people closer to those who would govern them.

Best Accessibility Initiative
Entrants in this category will be attempting to bridge the digital divide that affects rural communities, the disabled, the elderly and the socially disadvantaged.

Best Diversity Initiative
Entrants in this category will exemplify expressions of cultural diversity and identity, including multilingual and local language content to bring all people into the internet.
