Tui Shouts Southland Farmers A Well Deserved Beer
Tui Shouts Southland Farmers A Well Deserved Beer And BBQ
Tui did it in 2008 and now it’s doing it again.
Two years ago New Zealand’s most popular beer brand shared a few beers with Southland farmers hard hit by drought. This time round it’s the other extreme with heavy rain and snow killing thousands of lambs and causing a minor civil disaster.
So Tui is doing what it does best and shouting Southland farmers a beer or two at a free barbeque from 5.30pm Tuesday 28th September at the Tokanui Tavern at the base of the South Island.
Also pitching to help the farmers is the Mataura Licensing Trust, which runs the tavern, and Ritchie’s which will run a free bus service from several Mataura Licensing Trust pubs in the area to Tokanui and then back to Gore. All seats need to be pre-booked through the assigned pick-up points.
Tui marketing manager Jarrod Bear says he’s expecting a good number of farmers at the barbeque which he hopes will allow them to get together for a yarn and soak up the goodwill extended by Tui and the other sponsors.
“The wear and tear on morale that comes with trying to manage a crisis, regardless of whether it’s snow or an earthquake, is often not recognised and left un-treated can lead to a serious decline in motivation, not to mention dire thirst!”, says Bear.
Those wanting to catch the free bus service to the Tokanui Tavern on Tuesday 28th September can do so from these locations at the following times:
- 4pm, Traffers in Gore
- 4.15pm, Falls Hotel, Mataura
- 4.30pm, Pioneer Tavern, Edendale
- 4.45pm, 3 Rivers Hotel, Wyndham
To secure a seat on the complimentary bus, travelers need to contact one of the pubs listed ahead of time.
The return bus will depart Tokanui Tavern for Traffers at 9pm.
