Law Society Charges McKay and Hill

LawFuel.co.nz - The Law Society has issued charges against Napier lawyers Gerald McKay and Richard Hill following the freezing of their firm's trust account in June.

Gerald McKay already handed in his practising certificate in June following what the law society described as "irregularities" involving the firm and its operations.

The charges have been laid by the Hawke’s Bay Lawyers Standards Committee of the Law Society has laid charges with the New Zealand Lawyers and Conveyancers Disciplinary Tribunal.

Richard Hill was a principal until approximately 2006 after which time he practised as a consultant to the firm.

On 22 June the Standards Committee obtained an interim order from the Disciplinary Tribunal suspending McKay from legal practice.

McKay has been a high profile lawyer in Napier for many years, a director of almost 50 companies and is president of the New Zealand Trustees Association.
