Federated Farmers happy at 'full
review' of Raw Milk Regulations
Federated Farmers is pleased that the Government has decided to look into the Raw Milk Regulations earlier than at first signalled.
"It's pleasing to see that Government has decided to bring forward a review of the Raw Milk regulations to March 2011, instead of December 2011," says Lachlan McKenzie, Federated Farmers Dairy chairperson.
"Federated Farmers believes it was possible have started the review this year, but at least we now have a firm date to focus on.
"Federated Farmers also notes that a Bill looking at the sunset clauses within the Dairy Industry Restructuring Act 2001, passed its first reading this afternoon. Federated Farmers looks forward to engaging with all MP's during the Select Committee process.
"But we wish to get a clear steer from the Minister of Agriculture on the principles that will drive a broader review of raw milk regulations. Especially about how it will contribute to a 'vibrant and innovative dairy sector for the benefit of dairy farmers, consumers of dairy products and the New Zealand economy.'
"Federated Farmers hopes that the playing field will indeed be a level one," Mr McKenzie, concluded.
