Waikato Ag Businesses Eye Up Chilean Opportunities
Waikato businesses operating in the agricultural sector are invited to meet with Chilean business leaders and government officials on Wednesday, 20 October at the Waikato Innovation Park.
Four Chilean organisations will be represented at the session, including the country’s economic development agency, the country’s leading agricultural research organisation, a division of the country’s Ministry of Agriculture in charge of innovation and a private association of growers and farmers.
Chilean and Government officials will share several presentations to start out the networking session, followed by presentations on Chilean investment opportunities. Members of the delegation are making themselves available during the afternoon to meet with Waikato companies one-on-one.
Waikato Innovation Park CEO, Derek Fairweather, says he has always thought the Chilean market was a great export market for Waikato companies.
“Since visiting Chile in 2006, I’ve been enthusiastic about the business prospects emerging in that country following the signing of the P4 trade agreement that year between New Zealand, Chile, Singapore and Brunei Darussalam.
“Waikato companies are sitting in a great position to proper from this trade agreement, because the same agricultural-based industries that drive our economy drive the Chilean nation as well.
“Chile is on the fast track toward becoming a global food power and requires agri-technology expertise - such as exists in the Waikato - to fuel this growth. This translates into great export opportunities for New Zealand companies,” explains Mr Fairweather.
Seventeen Waikato organisations have already signed up to participate in the session on Wednesday. Other companies interested in participating are welcome, and must RSVP ahead of time by phoning the Innovation Park on 07 857 0500.
