Port of Tauranga expands Auckland “inland port”

Feb. 18 (BusinessDesk) - Port of Tauranga is to establish a new container packing and unpacking facility in Auckland next to its MetroPort operation at Southdown.

It will be a joint venture with its associate companies Tapper Transport and C3 Ltd, and will connect by rail to its container terminal at Tauranga.

To be called MetroPack, its first customer is Carter Holt Harvey Lodestar and will store and pack recycled fibre medium export paper reels from the company's Penrose mill, as well as its northern mills' sawn timber and LVL exports.

Port of Tauranga chief executive Mark Cairns said MetroPack provides opportunities to serve other Auckland-based importers and exporters.
