Andy Nicole is appointed as the new winemaker at Soljans Estate Winery
Kiwi winemaker Andy Nicole has been appointed as the new winemaker at Kumeu’s Soljans Estate Winery.
Coming to Soljans from Kurow/Pasquale wines in the Waitaki Valley in North Otago, Andy joined the Soljans team on 21st February 2011.
After starting his winemaker career with a Post Graduate Diploma in Viticulture and Oenology from Lincoln University in 1999, Andy threw himself into the world of wine commencing with his first cellar hand role at Church Road in Hawke’s Bay. He then headed overseas to his first foreign vintage in Oregon in 2000 and since then has traveled to France, Italy and Australia experiencing different winemaking cultures.
Andy brings all these valuable experiences to Soljans, and Managing Director Tony Soljan is very pleased to have Andy on board.
“Soljans wines are gaining momentum in many overseas markets, particularly in China and this is a very exciting time within the company for increasing volumes of our estate produced wines” says Tony. “Andy’s arrival at Soljans is the next chapter in our long winemaking history, and I’m looking forward to working with him” Andy says “I’m excited by the opportunity to work with Tony as he is highly respected in the New Zealand wine industry. It's also a great opportunity to be back working in Auckland and put my passion and dedication for winemaking into the Soljans wines. Sparkling Wines are one of Soljans enviable strengths and this is an area that I am very interested in working in”.
