Kiwi salmon is king among Aussie fish lovers

Kiwi salmon producer New Zealand King Salmon has won a top Australian seafood award.

The company has been judged the Best Supplier – Aquaculture at the Sydney Fish Market’s Seafood Excellence Awards 2011.

The award compares products from aquaculture suppliers to determine who delivers the most popular and highest quality aquaculture product in to New South Wales.

All products must be sold through Sydney Fish Market Pty Ltd, either through its auction or direct sales systems. New Zealand King Salmon products in Australia are marketed under the Regal King Salmon brand.

The company’s Australian general manager Markus Gerlich compiled the entry focusing on a staff motto of “we care”.

“It’s very much within our psyche to focus on caring for customers, our wholesalers, about our fish and about the environment,” Gerlich says.

The entry highlighted NZ King Salmon’s world class farming practises supported by its Global Trust accreditation as well as its awards from the British Humane Society for its harvesting practices.

Gerlich also says Regal King Salmon differentiates its brand by the calibre of chefs who choose to serve the fish in their food establishments. They include Matt Moran (ARIA), Warren Turnbull (District Dining / Assiette) and Colin Fassnidge (Four in Hand) to name a few.

NZ King Salmon CEO Grant Rosewarne says the Sydney win continues a stellar year for the Marlborough-based salmon farmer.

“All six of our products submitted for the annual International Taste & Quality Institute (iTQi) Superior Taste Awards gained either the top three-star or two-star rating in Brussels earlier in the year.

“This latest award simply reinforces the fact that customer and consumer satisfaction are key elements to our success in global markets. The taste and texture appeal of our Chinook products have some of the world’s best chefs saying our King salmon has superior taste.”

The Seafood Excellence Awards honour the best in the business and celebrate Australasian seafood and were announced at the Sydney Town Hall, Saturday tonight (30 July 2011). There are 14 award categories.
