General Manager of Vector Wellington Orchestra Resigns

Embargoed until 9am Wednesday September 14

Diana Marsh announces her resignation as General Manager of Vector Wellington Orchestra

Diana Marsh has announced her resignation as General Manager of Vector Wellington Orchestra after two years in the role.

“It has been a privilege to have led an organisation so integral to the city and the region, a role I have found very rewarding,” Diana Marsh says.

“Much of my tenure has been dedicated to maintaining the existing Creative New Zealand funding and strengthening the orchestra’s financial position to ensure it can continue to meet the needs of the Wellington region and beyond,” she says.

“Now that has been achieved, it is time for me to focus on other priorities in my life, with the knowledge that the orchestra is in a strong position for the future. Its governance is stable and capable, performance standards are high, new artistic initiatives have been implemented, audience figures are strong and the importance of the orchestra’s role in Wellington is undeniable.

“I would like to pay tribute to Music Director Marc Taddei who has been a truly inspirational colleague. I have enjoyed working with the players, led by Concertmaster Matthew Ross, the administrative staff, and members of the board. I would particularly like to acknowledge Alick Shaw, the Chair of the Vector Wellington Orchestra.”

During Marsh’s time as General Manager the orchestra’s funding was under threat of significant reduction by Creative New Zealand. This would have had a negative impact on both the orchestral sector in New Zealand and Wellington’s arts sector. Creative New Zealand has recently announced that Vector Wellington Orchestra’s funding for 2012 and 2013 has been secured at current levels.
VWO Music Director Marc Taddei comments, “It has been an absolute pleasure working with Diana over the past two years. Her leadership, drive and belief had a profound and positive effect on the VWO. I will miss our warm professional relationship and wish her all the very best.”
VWO Chair Alick Shaw says, “Diana has made an important contribution to the orchestra during some very testing times. I will miss her, the board will miss her and so, I am sure, will the players.”

“It is with real regret that we accept her resignation but we understand her reasons. We thank her sincerely and wish her the very best”

The board will now undertake a search for a new General Manager.
