Newspapers still resonate with NZ business owners: survey

Newspapers still resonate with NZ business owners, new survey claims

By Hannah Lynch

Nov. 15 (BusinessDesk) - New Zealand business owners rank 13th in a worldwide survey of newspaper readership though they lag behind those in other countries for surfing the net at work.

Grant Thornton International Business surveyed 39 countries and found 92 percent of NZ business owners read a newspaper compared with a global average of 78.6 percent. The kiwis beat out Australian business owners at 76 percent and the US at 58.5 percent, the survey shows.

"In New Zealand, 52 percent of those surveyed said newspapers were their preferred source of news, with 10 percent relying on electronic newspapers and only 2 percent favouring radio stations. Television was the choice of 20 percent while just 12 percent got their news from desk-based internet, the survey says.

On a global average 39 percent of business owners still favour newspapers as their preferred source of information, about 26 percent relied on the internet at their desk and 8.9 percent used their smart phones.
