We have seen secondary school students compete at the Northland Salon Culinaire with huge success giving them the courage to move on to a hospitality type course at tertiary level within our region. As Salon Director I am passionate and committed to the continuation in this area as I believe that in the long run this will mean more hospitality staff and more talented young chefs with better skills servicing the visitors to our region."

Background –
Northland Salon Culinaire
The Northland Salon
Culinaire had its inaugural beginnings in 2007 and
has quickly become an important event in our regions
Industry calendar as it involves such a wide range of people
and skills from Industry and Educational Institutes. This
event brings together our Training Providers, Tutors,
Students and Secondary Schools as well as Chefs and Food &
Beverage staff in Industry; most of which are small to
medium sized enterprises that employ, collectively, the
greatest number of people in the Industry.
Competitors come together and compete in front of live audiences and Industry Judges in close to 30 competition classes over two days. The Salon is designed to create a friendly competition as well as being a steppingstone to New Zealand’s national competition.
