Auckland’s lack of spiritual stores

Has anyone seen a metaphysics store? Auckland’s lack of spiritual stores

It may seem like a niche market, but that is only because of the lack of stores.

There was once a greater presence of crystal stores, where spiritual folk could take their pick of powerful stones and pendulums, but today we see a genuine lack.

There are a few stores scattered across the wider Auckland area, but the number has dropped significantly; much damage to the industry done during the economic recession.

Pete Wyatt, organizer of the Mind, Body, and Spirit expos says, “My wife and I used to own a crystal shop in Whangaparaoa and after we closed down I was involved in another one in the area but that failed due to the costs of rent etc.”

Mr. Wyatt’s story is not a one off- many of Auckland’s spiritual stores have disappeared, along with New Zealand’s financial prosperity.

Mr. Wyatt organizes the Mind, Body and Spirit expos that run throughout the year in different venues across Auckland and other parts of New Zealand.

There he has a large stall, packed with geodes, crystals, tarot cards, spiritual books, incense and wands- a yogi couldn’t ask for more.

He describes the expos by saying, “they are a place where interested people can come in and talk to people about a range of alternative options not found in your average shopping center, where one can attend a workshop and listen and learn or you can direct your questions to the stall holder, and finally if you wish you can purchase new age and alternative products.”

They opporate frequently enough to give a crystal collector their fix, even without accessability to general stores.

Mind, Body and Spirit expos return to Auckland on December 7th and 8th at Alexandra Park, Greenlane, after travelling around the North Island this Month. Check them out at www.mindbodyandspirit.co.nz.
