New World Gift Cards Flying Out the Doors

Media Release

21st November 2013

New World Gift Cards Flying Out the Doors Ahead of Christmas

A first-time promotion enabling Fly Buys members to use points for New World grocery gift cards has exceeded expectations ahead of Christmas with members choosing New World gift cards ahead of over 1500 other Fly Buys rewards.

The joint New World and Fly Buys campaign enables Fly Buys members to redeem points for three different denominations of New World gift cards until Sunday 15 December, 2013.

The New World Gift Cards have proven so popular since teaming up with Fly Buys on 28 October that they now hold the top three spots for most popular Fly Buys rewards for November, knocking flights and magazine subscriptions off the top spots for the month.

A $20 New World Gift card can be redeemed for 111 points and has proven to be the most popular with Fly Buys members followed closely by the $75 gift card, which members can get for 416 points. Taking out the third spot for the most popular reward for the month is the $50 New World Gift Card, which members can get for 277 points.

Loyalty NZ CEO Stephen England-Hall says, “New World Gift Cards are an excellent addition to our extensive range of Fly Buys rewards. We’re thrilled by how excited our members have been about them. In just over three weeks more than 27,000 gift cards have been redeemed and we’ve received really positive feedback over social media letting us know how useful these cards will be in the lead up to Christmas.”

Foodstuffs NZ group marketing manager Steve Bayliss says the New World team wanted to offer customers something relevant and tangible this Christmas.

“We’ve previously offered turkeys which always go down a treat at Christmas. We toyed with the idea of traditional items like socks or even foot spas. Ultimately we landed on New World gift cards. It means customers can purchase exactly what they want at a New World store rather than receiving something they don’t want which is often my own Christmas experience.”

To start shopping at New World with their gift card, customers simply need to redeem their points online (www.flybuys.co.nz) then pop into their local New World and present their Fly Buys card. They’ll receive their appropriate gift card then and there, allowing them to shop immediately or up to 12 months from the date of the rewards redemption.
