Bedding down for success - Naked Bus launches new Sleeper

Kiwi travel company Naked Bus is en route for success with the launch of its new Sleeper service, introducing lie-flat beds for customers travelling between Auckland, Hamilton, Palmerston North and Wellington.

Naked Bus serves 320 towns and cities nationwide and, with a market growth of 25% predicted in 2015, the company is looking to once agin reshape the domestic travel market with the Sleeper, a first for New Zealand bus travel.

The Sleeper takes to the road on 18 December 2014, with bookings open this week (23 October 2014). Passengers will be able to board and bed down with sheets, pillows, wifi and a food service as they travel between the centres for $50 or less.

"The Sleeper is a significant innovation and a first for New Zealand," says Naked Bus CEO Hamish Nuttall. "We believe it will change the way people view bus travel and it caters for a growing mobile workforce. It will be popular with existing customers as well as those who hadn't previously thought about travelling with us.

"We will trial the service and seek customer feedback so we can adapt, improve and develop and we anticipate the service will look substantially different in six months’ time.

"Our company philosophy is based on being agile and responsive and by launching early, working with customer feedback and continuing the fantastic collaboration we have had since the start of the project, we believe the Sleeper will make a significant difference to many people.

"Our multi-disciplinary team has worked closely with regulators, designers and engineers to create the Sleeper buses, which are currently being fitted out in Christchurch. The passion and focus has been amazing - creating this new service has been an incredible journey for us all."

Sleeper-style bus routes are available elsewhere in the world but the Naked Bus Sleeper will be the first of its kind in New Zealand.

Naked Bus is a Kiwi owned and operated company providing affordable travel options for customers throughout the country since 2006. The company is on track to provide 700,000 passenger journeys this calendar year. Its goal is to reach one million passenger journeys in 2016
