Tama Waipara Wins Best Roots Album 2014 at Vodafone NZ Music Awards

Auckland Arts Festival is delighted to congratulate its programme manager Tama Waipara after winning Best Roots Album 2014 at last night's Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards.

Waipara saw off heavyweight competition from Mark Vanilau and House of Shem to receive the award for his album, Fill up the Silence.

Auckland Arts Festival artistic director Carla van Zon says she is thrilled at Waipara's win.

"Tama is a valued member of the Festival team. He has worked with us since 2012 and we are all delighted that Tama has received this award. We know that he is extremely talented and that he brings a unique and important voice to the New Zealand music scene,” says Ms van Zon.

"The entire Festival team congratulates him on this well deserved recognition."

Tama Waipara (Ngāti Ruapani/ Rongowhakaata/ Ngāti Porou) is a prominent New Zealand composer, singer and musician who has released four albums since 2003.

He frequently collaborates with some of New Zealand’s most high profile singers and musicians, including Nathan Haines, Maisey Rika and Annie Crummer.
