Air New Zealand brings back $29 Night Rider service

Air New Zealand brings back $29 Night Rider service

Air New Zealand is offering its Night Rider service again – and this time the deals will extend to regional New Zealand destinations.

From 20 February, for a limited time, every seat on an additional late night service on selected regional and trunk routes will be priced at just $29 one way or $39 for the ‘Seat + Bag’ option.

Auckland, Nelson and Christchurch will be Night Rider’s first ports of call, with the service operating both the Auckland-Nelson and Auckland-Christchurch routes, five days a week through until 19 March 2015. Further Night Rider services will be announced periodically on a surprise and delight basis.

Air New Zealand Group General Manager New Zealand and Pacific Islands Louise Struthers says Night Rider proved a huge hit with customers in the past and this expanded version is expected to be very popular again.

“This time around we’ve decided to extend Night Rider further, with both domestic jet and regional turbo-prop aircraft operating Night Rider services.

“Night Rider flights are additional to the existing schedule, adding thousands of additional, affordable seats to these markets.

“Customers around New Zealand who are interested in securing one of these great fares should keep an eye out for details around when and where Night Rider will operate next.”

Nelson Deputy Mayor Paul Matheson says it’s hugely exciting to be the first regional service announced and the flights will bring a welcome boost to Nelson.

“This Night Rider service will make more than a thousand additional seats to Nelson available at a great price. We look forward to welcoming even more visitors to our region and sharing everything this great city and surrounding areas have to offer.”

Manawatu will also be among the regions to benefit from Night Rider.

Acting Palmerston North Mayor Jim Jefferies says details of the Night Rider service into the city will be announced in the coming weeks.

“The additional flights that Night Rider will bring to Palmerston North are likely to be extremely popular with locals and visitors alike.”

A 68 seat ATR turboprop aircraft will operate flights between Auckland and Nelson, departing Auckland at 8.45pm Thursday through Monday and at 9.05pm on Fridays. The return leg will depart Nelson at 10.30pm Thursday through Monday and at 10.15pm on Fridays. The Auckland to Christchurch Night Rider services will be operated by a 171 seat A320 aircraft from Thursday through to Monday with the flights in both directions departing at 9.30pm.

In order to be able to offer $29 fares there are a few restrictions for customers to note. Night Rider flights will skip the airline’s usual in-flight drink and snack service and customers travelling on these services will not be able to access the lounge prior to departure. Night Rider services cannot be booked as part of a through fare domestically or internationally and are not available to unaccompanied minors. Services may not operate on key public holidays.
