PrefabNZ CoLab highlights a collaborative approach to housing manufacture
New Zealand’s love-hate relationship with housing has seen the transition to innovative methods of construction stifled because of an innate desire for unique, custom home designs. ‘It is great that we want to express individuality’, says Pamela Bell, PrefabNZ CEO, ‘but it’s time to start thinking more seriously about the way we design and construct our buildings, residential and commercial, in order to meet the needs of our growing and ageing population.’
Innovators and experts from the design and construction industry are heading to the PrefabNZ CoLab in Wellington on 22-24 April to debate, connect and collaborate on the use of modern methods of construction to produce innovative designs. ‘It’s a chance to get up close and personal with some of the latest examples in offsite manufacturing, from materials and systems to process and design’ says Pamela. The CoLab will host presenters from as far afield as America, Australia, Japan and Canada to deliver an international perspective in what promises to be an interactive and hands-on event.
The New Zealand building landscape is changing, according to Bell, and as the voice of the prebuilt industry PrefabNZ aims to facilitate the sector to move with the change.
The CoLab is being held in Wellington on 22-24 April and includes site visits and a full day of presentations from international experts including:
- Amy Marks (President & Owner of XSite Modular Consulting) - USA
- Dr Masa Noguchi (University of Melbourne) – Australia/Japan
- Damien Crough (prefabAus and Hickory Group) – Australia
- Dr Mohamad Al-Hussein (University of Alberta) – Canada
