Indigenous martial arts club grading in Wellington
Indigenous martial arts club to hold grading in Wellington
This Queen's birthday weekend Rangataua o Aotearoa will host its annual whakaroherohe/gradings in Wellington.
Rangataua member Selwyn Hayes said, "the overall purpose of the grading is to enhance and reinforce the knowledge base, and physical and mental skills of each Rangataua member". This year approximately 100 members are expected to attend.
Rangataua is an indigenous martial arts club that instructs in te reo Maori, uses tikanga Maori in training, and believes in a holistic well being.
The grading is also used to strengthen relationships with other branches of Rangataua.
Rangataua o Aotearoa was formed 25 years ago. Whanaungatanga and manaaki tangata are intrinsic to the club.
Rangataua currently have clubs based in
Whakatane, Turanga-nui-a-Kiwa, Te Raki-pae-whenua, and Te
Whanganui-a-Tara.
