Global Wedding Extravaganza- A Show with a Difference

As grand finale to Christchurch Garden City Festival of Flowers and Romance,

There are some pleasant surprises including a Chinese sedan-chair, a redwood handcrafted masterpiece. There are only two sedan chairs in the Southern Hemisphere and only a handful in the world! Sedan chairs are equivalent to arriving in style at a chapel in a stretched limousine.

Global Wedding Extravaganza is the brain-child of Sharon Lingham, 'bringing nations together' in Christchurch and to promote Garden City as 'the destination for weddings' ..and fundraising - this is Sharon's passion!

Over Christmas, in spite of Sharon being in hospital, the idea became a reality as Christchurch's diverse nationalities wanted to participate in this event unique event! Sharon got busy contacting some of the nationalities.

"I simply did not have time to form a committee or hold meetings-everything was done by phone and email"- said Sharon.

Her company, Crown Limousines NZ Ltd, is already involved in three wedding shows annually-also being on board of one; Sharon envisioned a unique event with the purpose to uniting people of Christchurch and also raising funds..

"The Salvation Army are grateful to have the opportunity of being associated with the "Global Weddings Extravaganza 2006",said Major Wayne F Jellyman DIVISIONAL COMMANDER.

Lingham would like to see this event held every year nationwide.

Sharon insists that Christchurch is a wedding great destination -whether you get married in a church or chapel, marae, temple, garden, hot air balloon, vineyard, on the beach, river or sea or the unconventional bungee ..., you can also be assured of great honeymoon destinations- all within an hour and a half drive away!

She also foresees a combination of two or more cultures for a wedding ceremony becoming more popular.

"Our society is changing - we could easily merge several cultures into one wedding for fun !
We could bring our own heritage or adopt the one we love! This is more exciting and more meaningful to the couple ".

Guests would have one-of-a-kind experience, if you were creative to bring multicultural celebration- of different ethnicities, religious and cultures.

Spruce up old traditions or create new ones to make it a party-of-a-lifetime! Ensure your guests are aware of this otherwise they might expect a real traditional wedding. Poor Aunt Hilda would have a heart seizure!
