PRESS RELEASE

"PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT" by Mat Hunkin:
A FREE FRINGE COMIC EVENT

Feb 19th- Feb 23rd
Two sites:
Wellington Railway Station
Wilsons carpark, Cuba street

Free!

Giant comics grace Wellington walls! "Public Announcement" is a free five-page comic strip by Wellington illustrator Mat Hunkin, told one page a day on the walls of Wellington.

From Monday the19th to Friday the 23rd of February, one poster page of a five-page comic strip will be pasted up daily. Phantom Billstickers hoardings in both Wellington Railway station and Wilsons carpark on Cuba street will play host to the event.

"Public Announcement" is a working part of a larger research project based around New Zealand and the Pacific during World War II. Hunkin is keeping the story a surprise, but suggests that it is "very loosely" set in the Pacific during World War Two, and will be brimming with "action, humour, drama, suspense and all the other fine traditions of classic newspaper comic strips."

The artist sees "Public Announcement" as a new way to tell a comic story publicly, on a large scale, to a large audience. However unlike reading a book "you won't be able to turn back a page. Each page will be pasted over the last, so don't miss your daily instalment!"

Once the story concludes on Friday it will be collected into a small comic, featuring daily photographs from the event.
