Fringe hits the home stretch

Fringe hits the home stretch

In little more than a week, the 14th annual Fringe Festival will draw to a close, leaving Wellingtonians to ponder how to fill the void in their lives left by the Fringe’s organised chaos.

So it’s a good thing, then, that some of Fringe 07’s best and brightest performances are scheduled for the final week.

“We don’t do whimpers very well – but we can bang – so we’ll be going out with all guns blazing when we draw the curtain on Fringe 07 after this weekend,” said Fringe 07 director Karen Blyth.

“There’s about one third of the 98 shows still performing in the final week, so our fat programmes have plenty of use left in ‘em. Here’s my picks for the week:”

Lost Girls, BATS Saturday February 24 to March 1 “This will be gripping and heart-wrenching. This play follows the lives of three kiwi girls who tragically disappear forever, inspired by Mona Blades’ mysterious disappearance. For thought-provoking and searching theatre, this is it.”

Gravity and Other Myths, Queen’s Wharf Events Centre, March 1 to March 10 “So good that we let them carry on after Fringe 07 ends! The creators of last year’s amazing Heavenly Burlesque return with a circus acrobatic spectacular.”

A Glass Of Wine, Wellington Performing Arts Centre, February 23 to March 4 “You know how sometimes the easiest things we have to do become the most hideous and complicated of ordeals? Like just opening a bottle of wine? Our US visiting comedian Daniel Forlano has made a whole show of it.”

Sounds Like Light, Lights and Sound, Happy (back room) February 23 to March 3 “This looks like a total trip in the back room at Happy. As you move, the sound and lights react. Very psychedelic!”

This Is Not A Medical Satire, City Gallery Theatre, February 22 to March 3 “What would YOU do if you discovered Satan resided in ovaries? Deliciously dark humour from the medical world.”
