"Miss NZ Punjaban 2007"

The first-ever event based on true Punjabi culture and heritage "Miss NZ Punjaban 2007" organized at Telstra Clear Pacific event Centre, Manukau, New Zealand on 19th May 2007.

The beauty pageant was organized by the NZI Cultural Society Inc. in association with the Sabhyacharak Sathh Panjab. The president of the New Zealand chapter of the Sabhyacharak Sathh, Mr Raghbir Singh JP and Paramjeet Singh, Secretary Mr Gurdeep Singh Luther and Satvir Singh Pamma . We are committed to promoting the Punjabi language and culture in New Zealand.

Mr Jesmer Singh Datt, the founder and chairman-director of the exclusive Pageant Miss World Panjaban will be appearing in the show. Other Guests are Journalist, Palli Raipur, from India; Comdey King and film star Gurpreet Singh "GHUGGI" will entertain the local community with his excellent comedy; Punjabi folk singer, Manjit Rupowalia, will be performing punjabi folk songs to bring back the old sweet memories of Punjab and to make this show Unforgettable.

Raghbir Singh believes that the real beauty of a person lies in her "seerat" and not "surat".

This Auckland contest aims to help maintain the rich cultural traditions of the Punjab and to promote folk culture among the youth. This is the organisation's first attempt at preserving the Punjabi language, heritage and culture via a pageant, and bringing together the Punjabi community.

Mirchee TV will be covering this event. The Miss Punjaban contest is the brainchild of NZI and was conceived to honour the rich tradition, folklore and culture of Punjab through its youth and beauty. NZI dreams of popularising the contest on the lines of the Miss Universe pageant. NZI believes that the beauty of a woman is divine, which is portrayed by the purity of her thoughts, cultural values and virtues, as well as her intelligence. The aim of the Miss World Punjaban contest is to salute the essence of womankind, through respect, dignity and elegance.

As part of the selection process, contestants are chosen in sub-categories such as Mrignaini (Miss Beautiful Eyes), Khoobsurat Muskan (Miss Beautiful Smile), Lam Salammi Gutt (Miss Beautiful Long hair), Khoobsurat Dulhan (Beautiful Bride), Khoobsurat Lok Nach (Solo traditional Punjabi folk dance), Sughar Sayani Punjaban (Punjabi heritage quiz), Gidyan di Rani (Best in Gidha), Nipun Panjaban (Dextrous in traditional Punjabi household chores like Charkha, Chakki, Madhani, Chhaj and Saag Cheerna), Gunwanti Punjaban (Talent quest), Budhaman Punjaban (Personality)and Milapdi Punjaban (Miss Congeniality).
