Wotif: Top Destinations Booked For New Years Eve

Wotif.com announces the top destinations booked for New Years Eve

Wotif.com, Australasia's leading accommodation website has announced that Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch are the most popular destinations in New Zealand for this New Year's Eve.

The fanfare of New Year's Eve in the city has tempted the masses with total bookings for New Zealand's cities rivalling domestic leisure destination bookings for the same period.

Leisure destinations however, made up the majority of the top ten list of destinations booked over New Years with Queenstown, Rotorua, Taupo, Wanaka, Nelson, Tauranga taking out the next 6 spots and Napier and Te Anau tying for tenth place.

Wotif.com's New Zealand Manager, Tania Witheford said: "Although spending New Years Eve in the city is very popular, you can usually find great deals in the city centres throughout the entire festive season with hotels trying to attract bookers away from the more traditional summer holiday destinations by offering great rates and throwing in different inclusions.

"These lists have proven once again that kiwi travellers are savvy bookers and happy to go where the bargains take them," she added.

Internationally, Asian countries dominated this list of top New Years Eve destinations with Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Vietnam and Indonesia taking out second to seventh place respectively. There were no surprises for the top spot with Australia being the most popular international New Years Eve destination booked.
"
With increased airline capacity and competition between airline carriers who fly into Australia and Asia, kiwis are following the deals internationally.
