King Kapisi kicks off summer of free music

Catch King Kapisi, Opensouls and Chong Nee live when they take the stage at Myers Park for Telecom Summer Sounds on Saturday, 10 January.

King Kapisi hit us in 1998 with Sub-Cranium Feeling and has been a constant on New Zealand airwaves ever since.

He is joined by the fresh and soul-packed sound of Opensouls, and New Zealand’s premier R’n’B, soul and hip hop producer, Chong Nee.

Arts, Culture and Recreation Committee chairperson, Councillor Greg Moyle, encourages everyone to come along to the weekend’s activities.

“This is the first of eight Telecom Summer Sounds concerts for 2009 and it will set the tone for a summer packed with more than 40 free Music in Parks events in our city’s most spectacular parks,” says Mr Moyle.

Telecom Summer Sounds is part of Auckland City Council’s Music in Parks programme, celebrating 16 summers of free, live Kiwi music in our spectacular open spaces.

Music in Parks 2009 is proudly sponsored by Telecom and Drake International, and supported by NZCT, The Lion Foundation, Perry Foundation, RadioWorks (Mai FM, Solid Gold, The Breeze, MORE FM, The Edge, Radio Live and Kiwi FM), Juice TV and George FM.
