Two Day Play is a month long competition challenging 18 teams to create the best 10 minute play they can in a weekend. Each Sunday six teams premiere their work during a two-hour spectacle hosted by comedic beast Cohen Holloway, competing for a place in the final – where they do it all over again!

Every Sunday in February, the audience is guaranteed an entertaining selection of brand new work from a huge variety of theatre-makers – from high school students to Billy T award winners – many of whom are taking a weekend away from their own Fringe shows to put together a quickie on the side. All 24 original plays will be assessed and argued about by a broad selection of judges, including celebrated NZ playwright Jean Betts, actor/writer/TV producer Bevin Linkhorn, and theatre director Murray Lynch, amongst others.

Up for grabs is an awesome assortment of prizes designed to help the winning team make more theatre, including rehearsal space from Toi Poneke, poster distribution from Phantom Billstickers, a script assessment and consultation from Playmarket, and much more.

The performances are held at 7pm at McKenzie Theatre, Capital E (in Civic Square), February 1st, 8th, 15th and 22nd, with the winning entry also doing a guest performance at the Fringe NZ awards on Sunday March 1st. Bookings are through Downstage Theatre via phone, internet, or in person at the Box Office.
