Deja Voodoo - The Shape Of Grunge To Come

Deja Voodoo - The Shape Of Grunge To Come

‘Punisher’ is the first single from the highly anticipated new album from Deja Voodoo titled ‘The Shape of Grunge to Come’.  When asked what the inspiration for the song was, guitarist Gerry 'The General' Stewart says ‘The song is dedicated to a drunk fan in Dunedin who slightly annoyed us back stage on a 2005 national tour’.  If you always wanted a song written about you, then this probably wasn’t the way to get it done!

The song highlights a new direction for Deja Voodoo, who enlisted the producing skills of Justyn Pilbrow, recorded at The Lab in Mount Eden and mixed at Roundhead Studios in Newton.

It helps to have the celebrated the celebrated NZ maverick TV and filmmakers, Chris Stapp and Matt Heath in the band (The Devil Dared Me Too, Back of the Y).  They directed and produced the excellent video for ‘Punisher’. Drummer Piers Graham wrote the treatment and puppets were by American stop motion animator Chester Dextar who was especially flown in for the video. In true Deja Voodoo style, it was shot in an Auckland sewer and in Chris’ girlfriend’s garage.

The good folk at C4 have the video and single on their website. If you download the song from the C4 website, you can enter into a competition to win one of 5 signed advance copies of the new album ‘ The Shape of Grunge to Come’. Which is pretty shit hot as the album doesn’t get released until late May.
