National Library music services review reveals few changes from a user perspective
Few changes for Users of National Library music services
A consultation document proposed three options for the services provided from the music component of the National Library’s General Collections.
The consultation process was successful in that it attracted a cross section of respondents. This was a review of the collections and of services based on those collections, not of staff.
“There will be little change from a user perspective. Existing music material in the General Collections will be retained and the choral and orchestral score hire collection will remain unchanged “ said Alison Elliott, Director Content Services.
In future, the Library’s General Collection donation policy will focus on strengthening its New Zealand and Pacific music component. This is in line with the Library’s New Generation Strategy to 2017.
The following categories of music published overseas will be purchased for the Library’s General Collections. These categories are: standard music reference materials, a selected range of monographs, serials, recordings, videos and scores.
The choral and orchestral score hire collection will be maintained and further developed by purchasing published sets of scores of New Zealand and overseas resources.
Over 194 responses were received from many sectors of the music community, including: music-related organisations, private individuals, educators, librarians, performers and conductors. Around 880 people/organisations were advised of the review, it was also available on our website.
