2012 – Dispelling The Doom And Gloom

A panel of futurists and inspirational speakers has been lined up to take part in a special seminar in Auckland on 29th November aimed at countering popular anxiety about the apocalyptic predictions about the year 2012.

A film called 2012, directed by Roland Emmerich, has employed a viral marketing campaign drawing on fears of an apocalypse in that year. This campaign, which masquerades as a public awareness video from the fictitious "Institute for Human Continuity", has been roundly criticised by scientists and sceptics for contributing to popular anxiety on the topic.

Seminar organiser and panellist, David Slinger explains: `The year 2012 is hot news. Books have been written about it, movies are being made about it. But does it mean the end of the world or the beginning of a new era? How will it affect you? We are getting together with experts to hear positive perspectives and be empowered with insights, advice and tools. But most of all be prepared for an inspiring afternoon that will lift your spirit, give you lots to think about and be fun.’

2012 - Making The Most of the Consciousness Shift is on Sunday 29th November 2009 at 2.30 pm, Bruce Mason Centre, The Promenade, Takapuna, Auckland. Tickets are $39 each. The panellists are Dr Nicky Hamid, a former professor of psychology and now an author and inspirational speaker; Michelle Buchanan, resident Numerology Columnist for Woman’s Day; and David Slinger, a director at Life Energy Designs.

According to Wikipedia the 2012 phenomenon is a range of beliefs and proposals positing that cataclysmic or transformative events will occur in the year 2012.[1][2] The forecast is based primarily on what is claimed to be the end-date of the Mayan Long Count calendar, which is presented as lasting 5,125 years and as terminating on December 21 or 23, 2012.

Arguments supporting this dating are drawn from a mixture of amateur archaeoastronomy, alternative interpretations of mythology, numerological constructions, and alleged prophecies from extraterrestrial beings.

A New Age interpretation of this transition posits that, during this time, the planet and its inhabitants may undergo a positive physical or spiritual transformation, and that 2012 may mark the beginning of a new era.[3] Conversely, some believe that the 2012 date marks the beginning of an apocalypse. Both ideas have been disseminated in numerous books and TV documentaries, and have spread around the world through websites and discussion groups.
