A Golden Monday and a Ruby Tuesday

I'm a slow wee bat today from the Fringe awards, where BATS shows took out 5 awards, and BATS was inducted in to the Fringe Hall of Fame! The BATS chant and standing ovation were really very cool, we felt very spesh. It was a great way to celebrate 20 years of Fringe, considering it started at BATS in 1990, so big shout outs to all those who have been involved in Fringes at BATS over the years - ya'll legends.

Now, you lucky people get a chance to see two of our great Fringe shows for one more week - Angel & Ruby Tuesday are both comedies, but in vastly different (awesome) styles. Ruby Tuesday actor Isla Adamson took out Best Stand Out Performer last night, so come see what the fuss is about!

Our new Guano comes out tomorrow, so watch your letterboxes if you're on the mailing list. Wanna get some mail from us? You can sign up here. The upcoming shows for the next month are already up on the website.

Full of surprises yet awfully familiar, Ruby Tuesday wins sympathy and empathy in the most unexpected places because these astute creators and clever performers know how important it is to love the characters they send up. - John Smythe, Theatreview

Isla Adamson and Josephine Stewart-Tewhiu play all eight roles in a style that reminded me of the Topp Twins: a no-nonsense attitude to life and people and in their comedy there is warmth, compassion and affection. - Laurie Atkinson, The Dominion Post

Two actors: eight characters; one fateful high school day… Harassed drama teacher Cynthia Ruby is pushed to the brink by teenage delinquent Shelby- for the last time. The Best of Auckland Fringe 09 smacks down in Wellington with the show that left audiences “laughing uncontrollably... A little gem" (Theatreview). If you like Chris Lilley's Summer Heights High, and/or Seven Periods with Mr Gormsby you'll love this!

Check out the You Tube Trailer here, and their website here - pretty cool huh?

FRINGE 2010: Angel

LAST WEEK! Until this Saturday (No show Mon) @ 6.30PM

TIckets: $16 full / $13 concession / $12 Fringe Addicts

An exceedingly accomplished piece of theatre... Ricken’s strength is her ability to always be completely in the moment, to use that old theatre phrase. Whether smiling or crying, her face has a believable intensity, and when you add in her masterful physicality, you have a gifted storyteller. - Alan Scott, The Press

Clowntheatre in the traditition of Slava’s Snowshow.

An angel, trapped on earth, has resorted to terrorist activities in order to return to her natural state of loving bliss. The angel, known to the public only as “Angel,” has made an internet broadcast claiming that “we are all entitled to be loved unconditionally for who we really are” and that she will be “doing all of humanity a favour” if she carries out her explosive plans.

Angel is a funny and touching contemporary clown theatre show. Created by the most talented of Christchurch’s independent circus, theatre and music artists, Angel takes an irreverent and playful look at modern spiritual alternatives.

Brought magically to life by CircoArts tutor, Olli Ricken and director, Lucette Hindin (the clinic).

Check out Olli's website, and a sample of what she does here on YouTube.
