Dimmer Announce New Zealand and American Dates
Dimmer Announce New Zealand and American Dates Including a Chris Knox Benefit in New York
Shayne Carter’s Dimmer make their first foray to New York City in May, playing shows including a just-announced Chris Knox benefit gig.
Dimmer will also play in Los Angeles and San Francisco, and the US dates are preceded by two New Zealand shows, Friday 23 April at the Kings Arms in Auckland and Saturday 24 at Wellington’s Bar Bodega.
The Chris Knox Stroke benefit in New York promises to be a very special night at the Poisson Rouge venue on 6 May. Organised by US indie music scene friends and fans of Knox, the show features notable artists including Yo La Tengo and Kyp Malone from TV On The Radio, plus Jeff Mangum of Neutral Milk Hotel. It’s a testimony to the love for Chris that an artist like Mangum will make his first American public performance in over a decade for this cause. The Clean will be joining Dimmer to fly the NZ flag and the two bands team up again for a show the following night.
Dimmer’s latest album Degrees of Existence made it to number 2 on the NZ Herald’s best albums of 2009 and appeared on many other best-of-the-year lists.
But it is on stage that Carter’s current line-up are doing the business – summed up in a recent review of the band headlined “Something To Do Before You Die” that simply told readers “Go see Dimmer live right now. Go see Dimmer live right now. Go see Dimmer live right now...”
