Valerie Adams put a difficult year behind her to retain the Commonwealth Games shot put title in emphatic fashion today.

New Zealand Gold medallists are being presented with a black t-shirt with a single message. “Sir Ed said it best” the t-shirt reads.

The message refers to Sir Ed’s famous quip to expedition leader George Hunt on his return from the summit of Mt Everest in 1953.

Natalie Wiegersma has withdrawn from the finals of the womens’ IM400 that were scheduled to take place in Delhi this afternoon.
