Roll up! Roll up! Ports of Auckland hosts SeePort

Roll up! Roll up! Ports of Auckland hosts SeePort 2010

Ports of Auckland’s annual SeePort festival will be held on Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 November.

SeePort offers free guided tours of the Waitemata port with a view from a double-decker bus.

This is the fourth year that SeePort will be held and is a great chance to get behind the red fence for a close-up view of port operations.

“We are passionate about what we do here at Ports of Auckland and relish the opportunity to be able to share this experience with Aucklanders,” says Managing Director Jens Madsen.

“We are limited by international port security restrictions in regards to how much access we can allow onto the container terminals and multi cargo wharves, so SeePort is a really unique experience, and one we are proud to be able to offer.

“We have some of the largest and most technologically advanced machines in the country - our cranes, straddles and visiting international ships,” says Managing Director Jens Madsen.

“The free, 1-hour bus tours that we offer for SeePort, as well as the displays and exhibits will all have Ports of Auckland staff on hand so the public can find out what its like working at New Zealand’s largest container and cruise port.

“It’s our aim at Ports of Auckland to get every vessel turned around as quickly as possible. This helps the New Zealand economy by saving our exporters, importers and international shipping lines time and money. We’re not just a business – we’re a key link between New Zealand and the world.”

As well as the bus tours, the historic Captain Cook’s Gate on Quay Street, opposite the Northern Steamship Co, will feature exhibits, activities and entertainment for all ages. Bookings are essential for bus tours - to book, phone 0800 AK PORT (0800 25 7678). Photo ID is required upon boarding and children under 16 years old must be accompanied by an adult with photo ID.
