Zirigidum EP Release Party
Wellington's very own Afro-Brazilian band Zirigidum is releasing their first EP Saturday October 30 at Bar Bodega.
Zirigidum was formed in 2008 by a diverse group of talented kiwi and Brazilian musicians to explore Afro-Brazilian music. Their name comes from the sounds of the samba beat – zirigidum. The band has been gathering a large following playing at a wide range of events such as the Cuba st Carnival, the TV3 Telethon and most recently opening the Nelson Arts Festival.
Zirigidum perform an array of traditional samba rhythms such as Maracatu and Baiao mixed with reggae, funk, and rock. Zirigidum is a 10 piece group with with two female vocalists - renowned Brazilian singer and 'Live Brazil' festival organiser Alda Rezende and Nikkie Rich. Other instruments include sax, two guitars, bass, drumkit and four percussionists! With lyrics in both Portuguese and English, Zirigidum convey the essential Brazilian musical vibe, in a style that is accessible to a wide range of kiwi audiences. Zirigidum moves even the most reserved crowd!
The band are looking forward to teaming up with Wellington's Newtown Rocksteady and DJ Frankie Fresh to create a memorable night.
