Paekakariki In The Park : A Free Music Festival
Campbell Park, Wellington Rd, Paekakariki
Paekakariki In The Park, a celebration of music and Paekakariki’s famous hospitality in the beautiful seaside location of Campbell Park will be held over the weekend of 12 - 13 Feb, 2011.
Saturday runs from 12 to 6pm and features Lyttleton Harbour's country folk legends The Eastern, the exquisite indie folk sounds of Rosy Tin Teacaddy, 2010 APRA Best Country Song winner Matt Langley, virtuoso jazz-funk with brass section from Paekakariki's Pavlova, and acoustic reggae-dub from Kapiti youth band Jomba.
On Sunday from 12 till 2pm, Paekakariki‘s The Fat Teddies will host a picnic for young families and play their delightful folk favourites. Teddy bears and other friendly folks are especially welcome.
The stage is located at upper Campbell Park, Wellington Rd. Access is also via The Parade. Sideshows in lower Campbell Park on Saturday include a mini-train, bouncy castle, merry-go-round, slip-n-slide and carnival games.
Food stalls will complement the two BBQs provided for those who fancy a BYO cook-up. Hangi presales are available from the Paekakariki Cafe 04 2928860. Alternately, bring a hamper.
Other things to bring: togs for the slip-n-slide plus skateboards/rollerblades/scooters for a session at the skate park with the most beautiful view in the country.
Campbell Park is a five minute stroll from Paekakariki's historic train station which has a charming railway museum and specialist bookshop located within it. The village has a range of accommodation to suit all budgets and a small but all-you-need range of shops for your weekend supplies. Kapiti's wider attractions are also easily accessible from your Paekakariki base. Check out Facebook for links.
This is a SunSmart event. Grateful thanks to Kapiti Coast District Council, Porirua City Council, Cancer Society, Elizabeth Taylor Graphics, Paekakariki Scouts, RE/MAX Villa Real Estate, Radio Network, and the people of Paekakariki.
If Saturday is cancelled due to wet weather, all events will be held on Sunday 13th, 12-6pm.
