‘Ewan McDougall: Paintings’ is a new Art book on the New Zealand artist which is edited by and being published by Dr David Marks CEO of Art ‘n Stuff Publishing [London] in October, 2011.
The book has 200 colour plates of paintings by Ewan McDougall covering 49 years of painting. It includes his memoirs and photos of family, surfing, Rock bands and party photos from the Aotearoa of the 1960’s and 1970’s and Australia in the 1980’s.
There is a foreword by David Eggleton, poetry by Sarah McDougall, and commentary by art critics Kathryn Mitchell and Nigel Benson and the Gallery Director Jim Geddes, and writing by the authors Redmer Yska and David Marks.
It is a 240-page book and the page size will be 30.5 x 30.5 cm (Hardback; 100 copies) and 18 x 18 cm (paperback; 500 copies). The books will be available initially in London and New Zealand.
Ewan McDougall has had over sixty solo exhibitions in New Zealand galleries and has exhibited internationally in Penzance and in London, in Valencia [Spain], in Cremona City [Italy] and in Sydney and the Gold Coast of Australia. He is nine-time finalist in the Wallace Art Awards and is a finalist or prize winner in many other prominent NZ Contemporary Art Awards.
David Marks was a lecturer in psychology at Otago University in the late 1960’s and 1970’s before taking up a post as Professor of Psychology at City University, London. He was a founding member of the NZ Sceptics and he has published numerous books on psychology including the Psychology of the Psychic, but he has developed a passion for contemporary art and is hosting exhibitions of prominent painters in London and publishing art books. Ewan McDougall: Painter is the third book in the current series.
Book launches are planned for: 11 am -2pm Saturday, October 22nd at The Flagstaff Gallery, Auckland; Saturday 5th November at Gallery de Novo in Dunedin; The Exhibitions Gallery in Wellington in March, 2012, to coincide with Ewan’s Solo Exhibition there; and London in October 2012 to coincide with Ewan’s Solo show at the West End gallery 3 Bedfordbury Gallery.
