Example And DJ Wire

Example And DJ Wire

Example is the next big thing in Britrap. DJ Wire is the next big thing in Drum and Bass. Together, these two are unstoppable.

Born Elliot Gleave, Example, who came into the spotlight with songs Kickstart and Won’t Go Quietly, likes to make dance music while staying true to his roots by throwing rap in the mix.

Writing his music to suit no less than 12,000 party people throwing their hands up and singing along, Example aims high and is showing no signs of slowing down.

Example’s third album ‘Playing In The Shadows’ scored him his first Official UK Album Chart No.1 this year. As well as releasing an LP, Example has spent his time this year touring the UK (including a killer set at Glastonbury), Australia and looking into a US tour.

DJ Wire, born Samuel Wire, has joined Example on many a tour, as well as having played shows with the likes of Knife Party and Nero.

The Example & DJ Wire set is about energy and diversity - representing contemporary culture's iPod generation, embracing multi-genre parties and of course putting on a great show for fans that make the atmosphere incredible.

Rhythm and Vines fans would do well to take a deep breath before raging to these two – if their past shows are anything to go by, there’ll be a struggle to be the Last Ones Standing.

Check out the Example and DJ Wire Not So Pretty remix, along with the Ministry of Sound album they put together called Example and DJ Wire present: The Playlist.

SKREAM AND BENGA

Skream and Benga are synonymous with the word Dubstep; to think of one is to think of the other.

Ollie 'Skream' Jones is a 24 year old Croydon DJ, producer and original Dubstepper and had the festival anthem of last year with his Let's Get Ravey remix of La Roux's 'In For The Kill”.

And Benga, also aged 24, is a leading light in the rising global Dubstep movement alongside his childhood friend, Skream. At 15 he released his debut 12” “Skank/Dose” on one of Dubstep’s founding imprints and now works regularly with stars like John Legend, Tinchy Stryder and Ms Dynamite.

With two very successful solo careers in their back pockets, Skream and Benga have joined forces, and can be heard on UK radio most weeks – where listeners get to hear new tunes as well as Skream and Benga’s inimitable banter. They keep themselves very busy too, also making up two thirds of chart sensation Magnetic Man.

Expect Skream and Benga to deliver the grimiest tracks in a killer set that takes over anyone within earshot – get ready to lose your mind.

ERICK MORILLO

Erick Morillo is a platinum-selling Dance artist who’s topped the charts worldwide as the producer behind Reel 2 Real’s hit “I Like To Move It” (used in both Madagascar movies).

From producing, to DJing, to starring on an MTV show, there really is very little in the world of music and entertainment that Erick Morillo hasn’t turned his hand to.

Raised in Colombia, then New Jersey, Erick was weaned on a musical diet of Latin rhythms, reggae and hip-hop, and started Djing at the age of 11.

On his debut album he collaborated with Puff Daddy and Boy George alike, and has remixed everyone from Whitney Houston to Basement Jaxx.

Having spent summer playing the sickest parties in Ibiza, Erick is switching hemispheres to continue playing those sweet summer sounds to us at Rhythm and Vines – and we cannot wait!

ELECTRIC WIRE HUSTLE

Electric Wire Hustle are the unique Kiwi band who have developed their own sound of Korean Pop, Hip Hop, Psychedelic and Soul, challenging genre boundaries and preconceptions.

Thick drums and percussion layered with synth lines, hints of the Fender Rhodes and nylon stringed guitars have your neck snapping while your ear cranes to the evocative vocals of Mara TK.

Since forming in 2007 EWH have experienced an outstanding response to their music.

Their strong live show has already seen them perform all over the world, including a performance at the New York festival in 2010 as part of their debut U.S. tour.

Their debut self titled album has received love from many of the world's top Djs and selectors, with BBC Radio 1 DJs selecting their tracks Chaser and They Don’t Want as the top tracks of 2009.

ZINC

Hailing from London's east end, Zinc first became involved in the dance music world via pirate radio, which led to the meeting of like minded DJs and producers at the birth of Jungle - an exhilarating clash of breakbeats, basslines and samples that defined a generation of UK clubbing.

Recognised as one of the worlds premier DJs and innovative producers, Zinc is most well known for his 1995 hit Super Sharp Shooter, and the remix of the Fugees’ Ready Or Not - both of which still devastate dancefloors today.

Weighted with basslines from Dubstep and Jungle and infused rave influences, there’s nothing polite about Zinc’s new production or DJ sets, and as he brings his unapologetic energy into the Rhythm and Vines arena, Zinc will not miss a beat. We can expect a show that is all jet and no lag.

DANNY BYRD

One of the very first artists to sign to the fledgling Hospital, Danny Byrd's use of Hip Hop, House and R&B influences immediately began turning heads, and his own inimitable take on soulful, vocal Drum and Bass has become a staple in the scene.

From his song Red Mist VIP feat I-Kay receiving over six hours of Radio One play in 2009, to his liquid rave Sweet Harmony reaching number one in the UK Dance Singles chart, the UK local sure knows how to dominate.

This year, Danny Byrd has released a special edition of his 2010 studio album Rave Digger, championing a revival of classic Dance music, and will be pumping raving crowds up all summer long - this Byrd is one we won’t want to set free.

JACK BEATS

Beni G (Mixologists) and Plus One (Scratch Perverts) together are Jack Beats and represent the new wave of British house music that we love, with wobbly basslines, big breakdowns and edgy accapellas cut, copied and pasted together to create their floor-filling brand of house.

Citing influences as diverse as Timbaland, Rage Against the Machine, A Guy Called Gerald and SebastiAn, this British duo demanded our immediate attention after their gob-smacking take on Boy 8-Bit’s anthem Fogbank.

What followed were bass-heavy collaborations with Deekline and Wizard, bombastic refixes of Trip’s guitar-driven Who’s That? and The Black Ghosts classic I Want Nothing.

Now with a new live show that’s ready to ‘WOW’ any audience with spectacular visuals in conjunction with their already bone rattling sets we see exciting things coming for these guys and crowds a like.

From there he started producing tracks, before launching his own highly respected label Shaboom, releasing artists such as UBU, Joeski & Onionz, Fred Everything, Doc Martin and DJ Sneak.

His talent doesn’t end with producing though. It’s a rare weekend indeed that Dick Johnson is not behind the decks electrifying a crowd of dedicated followers, testing his tunes on dancefloors around New Zealand, and spreading his ‘Magik’ all over, from Australia, to Russia to Argentina and most points in between.

In 2011 he set up NEAT, a new label to release his own material and collaborations. Listen out for the first release - a collaboration with Kiwi girls MayaVanya titled Don't Need No One.

THE RUBY SUNS

The Ruby Suns are Ryan McPhun, Alistair Deverick and Graham Panther.

Originaly known as Ryan McPhun & the Ruby Suns, the Auckland based Indie-Pop band changed their name to The Ruby Suns in 2006.

In early 2007 the band embarked on their first European tour in support of their self-titled debut album, and in addition to that they did a Take-Away Show session shot by Vincent Moon. Later that year, the band toured with The Shins extensively throughout Australia.

In 2008, the band recorded the song Oh, Mojave, which was used in the Windows Vista commercial for the Mojave Experiment.

Their third album, Fight Softly, emulates the album name with its punchy beats and tender vocals, and with a strong and enthusiastic stage show to go along with their music, we can expect to be kept on our toes by The Ruby Suns.

RECLOOSE

Despite his stage name, Recloose (born Matt Chicoine) finds it impossible to stray far from the vanguard of Electronic music.

His big break supposedly happened while he was working in a sandwich shop in Detroit where Matt slipped a demo tape in with Carl Craig’s lunch – a ballsy move, but one that has clearly paid off.

This year Recloose resurfaced from his base in Auckland to once again trail blaze the dancefloors of the US and Europe with this inventive blend of Moody Techno, Soulful House, Synth-Heavy Jazz, and Funk and Heavy Downtempo music, before returning to New Zealand for Rhythm and Vines, blazing trail in tow.

With tremendous fanfare, summer 2011 will see the much-anticipated release of the first original Recloose music to emerge in three years – the ‘Saturday Night Manifesto’ EP for Rush Hour.

PIKACHUNES

Pikachunes is the solo project of New Zealand producer and musician Miles McDougall, who turned to digital production after a skateboarding accident left him unable to play the piano, guitar or trombone during his rehabilitation.

The self-titled debut album, which caught the ear of Lil’ Chief Records, is hook and riff based Pop music in its most basic form, with lyrics borne of honest observation.

Highlighting McDougall’s ability as a beat maker, New Fiend is a track to check out for sure.

Capturing a live energy only known to Auckland's most prolific and popular live acts, Pikachunes tells his story of romantic grandeur with his combination of House beats, Electro synths and his sexy baritone.
