SUBWAY Pro Cycling Team names strong team

SUBWAY® Pro Cycling Team names strong team for Tour of Southland
10 October 2011

The SUBWAY® Pro Cycling Team has named a strong lineup for the Powernet Tour of Southland that includes two key members of the New Zealand track endurance team aiming for selection for next year’s Olympics.

SUBWAY® Pro Cycling Team General Manager Hayden Godfrey said he thought it was the strongest lineup the SUBWAY® Pro Cycling Team has ever named for the tough southern tour which starts on Sunday 30th October with a team’s time trial and ends in Invercargill on Saturday 5th November.

It includes National Elite Time Trial Champion and Olympic bronze medallist Westley Gough and Commonwealth Games and World Championship medallist Pete Latham.

“We have a strong well rounded team and expect to feature prominently during the tour this year,” he said.

“The team has been racing very well together and really looking forward to getting some results in Southland this year.”

The SUBWAY® Pro Cycling Team has had some unfortunate luck early in racing in its last two trips to Southland, with key riders involved in serious crashes.

“We are looking forward to some good, safe, incident free racing this year. There have been some changes made to the tour stages to freshen things up which add another exciting element this year.”

Godfrey said competition for the six spots in the team for the Tour had been tough, and all the riders selected had proven themselves and were in good form.
The SUBWAY® Pro Cycling Team for the Powernet Tour of Southland is Gough, Latham, Sam Horgan, Paul Odlin, Nick Lovegrove and Ian Smallman.
