Auckland: Sanders Reserve officially opens with fun day

22 November 2011

Sanders Reserve officially opens with fun day

Get on your bikes, pack a picnic and bring the family to Sanders Reserve for the park’s official open day on Sunday 27 November.

There will be a bouncy castle, face painting, biking activities with Bigfoot Adventures, free ice creams and a sausage sizzle.

The opening marks the completion of 22km of mountain bike trails, a 500m children’s mountain biking trail, as well as separate horse riding and dog walking areas at the 41ha reserve in Paremoremo.

This Upper Harbour Local Board and Auckland Council project is the result of extensive community consultation, and two years of development at the site.

Local board deputy chair Margaret Miles says the reserve is a beautiful piece of coastal land.

“It is truly a very special piece of land and future generations are extremely fortunate to be able to enjoy.

“The development of the reserve has provided opportunities for a range of activities.

“There are tracks for children to ride bikes on, horse paths and open areas for equestrian riders, a fenced off area for dogs to romp off their leads and the opportunity for other residents to stroll through the reserve and enjoy the peace and tranquillity.”

The former North Shore City Council purchased the land for Sanders Reserve in 2002, and is named after the original owners, the Sanders family.
